Water Quality Reports

ALP Utilities is required to provide a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) to our customers. The CCR summarizes information regarding water resources used (i.e., rivers, lakes, reservoirs, or aquifers), any detected contaminants, compliance and educational information on contaminants.

Please contact us at 320-763-6501 if you would like to receive a printed copy of the CCR or have any questions.

Water Hardness

Alexandria’s water comes from protected groundwater sources and is drinkable from its source; however, untreated groundwater contains naturally occurring elements like iron, manganese and hardness/calcium.

Water treatment removes all but a trace of the iron and manganese but does not reduce the hardness or soften the water. As a result, most residents benefit from having a home water softener to address aesthetic issues like spots on dishes and calcium buildup on plumbing fixtures.

ALP ads 1.0 mg/l of chlorine to the water and 0.5 mg/l of fluoride as mandated by the Minnesota Department of Health.

Water hardness = 25 grains per gallon.

Bulk Water Fill Station

ALP has a bulk water fill station available 24-hours for public use. Payment is via credit card. Fill station pipe connections are 2 ½ inch fire thread, just like fire hydrants.

Lawn Sprinkling Restrictions

No sprinkling between 10 am – 6 pm from June 1 – September 1. This is the hottest part of the day and most watering is lost to evaporation.

Exemptions:

  • Private wells used for watering.
  • Hand watering of gardens and trees using a watering can or hose.
  • New landscaping or sod, may be watered daily but not between 10 am – 6 pm, for a period of 30 days after installation.

Hydrant Flushing

ALP Utilities flushes all hydrants annually, typically in the spring. It takes crews about 3-4 weeks to flush all the hydrants. Flushing creates a scouring velocity in the water mains to remove any settled impurities. The flushing operation also serves as a check for proper fire hydrant function.

If discolored water is experienced in your home or business, it is usually temporary and will clear up in a few hours. Running cold water taps should help speed up this process. Contact us if the water does not clear up at 320-763-6501.

ALASD Sewer Service

ALP Utilities is contracted by Alexandria Lakes Area Sanitary District (ALASD) to bill monthly sewer charges.

Rates are set by ALASD’s board of directors. If you have questions about sewage rates or are experiencing problems with your sewer system, contact ALASD at 320-762-1135.
