Kevin Mahoney earns Missouri River Energy Services Award

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Kevin Mahoney has been recognized by Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) for his long record of service to the City of Alexandria and to ALP Utilities.
Mahoney earned the MRES Community Leader Award, which was established in 2003 to honor local officials from MRES member communities who have provided many years of service to their communities and public power systems.
MRES has 61 member communities, including Alexandria, from the states of Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Each of these communities owns and operates a local electric system and purchases electric power from MRES.
While Mahoney was unable to attend the ceremony, MRES Board Chairman Harold Schiebout outlined some of the leadership activities Mahoney has provided to the community and ALP Utilities.
“Kevin Mahoney has been a very strong advocate for public power, for the City of Alexandria, and for ALP Utilities,” Schiebout said. “He was a member of the City Council for 10 years, from 1985 through 1994. After that, he served from 1995 through 2017 on the ALP Utilities Board of Directors. During the last three of those years, he served as the Board president.”
Schiebout noted that in Mahoney’s years on the Utilities Board, he was active in American Public Power Association Legislative and Resolutions meetings and in MRES Policy Makers dinners and Area Meetings.
“As a small business owner, he remains active in service to the people and community of Alexandria and in fund-raising efforts for various organizations and projects,” Schiebout said.
