Load Management System Upgrade To Begin In April

ALP Utilities is performing an upgrade to their load management system beginning the week of April 3 2023. Customers who participate in our load management program (water heater, air conditioner, heat pump or off- peak heating) have a load control receiver (LCR) that will need to be exchanged. Many receivers have been in service for over 20 years and are no longer working properly and ALP has opted for a system-wide upgrade.

ALP has chosen Allegiant Utility Services as their authorized contractor to manage the LCR upgrade. To complete the installation of the new LCR, they will need to access your electric meter and breaker panel in your home. Someone over the age of 18 must be present during the installation.

ALP and Allegiant Utility Services has sent letters out to current load management customers asking you to contact Allegiant Utility Services to schedule your appointment. We strongly encourage you to call promptly to schedule your appointment at a time that works best for you. This replacement will be completed at no cost to you. The replacement of the new device will take approximately 15-30 minutes.

(About The Load Management Program): The load management program was designed to lower our peak demand periods to reduce power supply costs. Short periods of peak demand can drastically drive up power costs. Our program focuses on water heaters and central air conditioners. A load control receiver is installed and connected to the equipment to be cycled (turned off and on) during high demand periods.

By cycling your water heater and/or your air conditioner during peak times, you can help reduce our peak load and costly demand charges. Cycling ensures that everyone in the community is not running equipment at the same time. Your water heater has many gallons of heated water stored. For air conditioners, the furnace fan will remain on during the control event allowing the already cooled air to circulate within your home. For these reasons, most customers are unaware their equipment is being controlled.
