Each spring, ALP personnel participate in SAFETY FIRST. It is a program coordinated by the University of Minnesota Extension Service and area safety experts such as police, sheriff, the ambulance department and utility workers. Schools in the area are invited to bring their 5th graders to this farm and home safety educational program.
The goals of the SAFETY FIRST program are:
- To understand emergency and first aid techniques
- To develop hazard recognition skills
- To learn about safety through hands-on interactive learning
- To reduce the number of childhood injuries
- To share what they have learned about safety with family and friends
Sessions are held on the following topics: electricity, firearm safety, fighting back, choking, farm safety, personal watercraft, pet safety, fire safety, livestock safety, chemical awareness, water patrol, tobacco, bicycle and babysitting.
ALP wants to help provide a safe environment for children to live and play.
