ENERGY STAR Change a Light, Change the World CFL Rebates
Watch our website and local media for details each fall. The campaign begins October 1 of each year and runs through November 30, or until the supply of bulbs lasts!
Saving money and energy can be a simple as the twist of an Energy Star qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL).
ALP encourages you to replace your homes five most frequently used light fixtures, or the bulbs in them, with Energy Star qualified CFLs. In the average home, the most frequently used fixtures are: kitchen ceiling dome light, living room table lamp, living room floor lamp, bathroom vanity light and outdoor porch or post lamp. By making this change, a household can save more than $60 a year in energy costs.
Alexandria Light and Power participates in the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) and the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) Change a Light, Change the World program each October. Certain local businesses (participants may change from year to year) offer an instant in-store rebate of $2.00 to purchase select Energy Star CFLs and ALP pays for that rebate.
ALP also encourages their customers to help protect the environment by recycling expired fluorescent bulbs by taking them to Pope Douglas Solid Waste Management, located at 2115 South Jefferson Street in Alexandria.
