Electric FAQ    > Electric > For Your Home

Why is my electric bill so high?
Remember this is a utility bill, not always just an electric bill. We bill for electric, water, sewer, strom water fee and in some cases, Internet.

We bill the sewer charges for Alexandria Lakes Area Sanitary District (ALASD). ALASD can be reached at 320-762-1135.

We bill the storm water fee for the City of Alexandria. If you have questions regarding this fee please contact Alexandria City Hall at 320-763-6678.

Also, there are many factors to consider in your electric and water usage. Water usage should stay fairly steady throughout the year but may increase in the summer season if you fill a swimming pool, water your lawn, and/or frequently wash your vehicles. However, electric usage can double or even triple during the summer months when air conditioning is used. If you have an electric furnace, your winter electric usage can also be high.

Where do I call if I have no power?
If your power goes off, check the breaker or fuse box in your home first to make sure the problem is not within your home. If the problem is not within your home, you should call us at 320-763-6501. We will need your name and address. If there is a large outage, you may experience a frequent busy signal. Please keep trying until you reach us.

Do I own my electric meter?
ALP owns your electric meter and is resposible for the electric service line from the pole to your home or business. However, the metal weatherhead or riser pole which attached to the service line is your responsibility. If the weatherhead is damaged (such as during a lightning storm) a licensed electrician must repair it before ALP can reattach the service line.

A street light is burned out in my neighborhood. How do I get it fixed?
You can either call our office during business hours or submit our online form.
